Blogging from a Blackjack table can be a tough thing

The Mavericks' back-to-back losses to lesser comp has definitely made a complicated playoff picture all the more confusing. I'd like to care more than I do, but I'm in Vegas and they weren't showing the Seattle disaster at my blackjack table.

I did see the majority of the Spurs flopping around against the Lakers and now that LA has the top spot, Wednesday's game against Nawleans seems way more important than it did right after the Mavs clinched a playoff spot against Utah.

As a person who'd like to see Dallas go far, I have zero interest in being on the same side of the bracket as the Lakers.

Being in Vegas and away from focused Maverick watching has me feeling further removed from the NBA playoff race than Donyell Marshall. And I'll be in the air when the Mavs tip against the CPIIIs so I'll have to get my tivo on there.

But when the dust settles Wednesday night, we'll make extremely bold predictions that will be so golden you'll have no choice but to fly out here and bet everything you own. Because gambling is illegal in Dallas and you'd never be able to place a bet there.

In other news, I still have no idea when to double down.

MCA makes hoops movie

Here's one for the roundball jonzers: Adam "MCA" Yauch has made a basketball documentary called Gunnin' For That #1 Spot. The films zooms in on 24 of the top high school players (now in college) as they hoop it up at Harlem's legendary Rucker Park in 2006. Featured ballers include UCLA's Kevin Love, Arizona's Jerryd Bayless and K-State's Michael Beasley. I'm optimistic; Spot will be released by the new Oscilloscope Pictures, a company started by my boy David Fenkel. Fenkel used to be at Think Films, and he knows from hoops. Spot will hit theaters this summer. Lace 'em up. And peep the press release below.

Save Their Sonics

Anyone catch the Mavs/Seattle game Sunday night? Not a great showing by our hometown boys - Rumors of morphing into a clutch fourth quarter team were apparently exaggerated - but still a pretty inspirational spectacle. There's a chance this was the last home game for the Sonics in Seattle, and the faithful were going flat-out nuts down the stretch. Those weren't the cheers of fans eager for a meaningless win down the stretch; they were desperate shouts amounting to a giant "don't move to Oklahoma, guys." I got chills during the "Save our Sonics!" chant near the end, maybe because Seattle won the first NBA title series that I actually watched, wherein Sikma, DJ, Downtown, Gus Williams and the boys avenged their choke against the Bullets one year previous.

So yeah, I was kinda rooting for the team in Emerald last night. Sue me.
