I kinda love and hate the NBA Draft Lottery. By not guaranteeing the No. 1 pick to the worst team, it helps dissuade teams from intentionally tanking at the end of the season to improve their draft spot.
Yet it seems weird that the Bulls, who a year ago were the Hornets of the East (a compliment I never thought I'd write), get to jump up and grab Michael Beasley or Derrick Rose. (Surely it'll be the former, right?)
You could question the Knicks getting Ewing, the Rockets getting Yao, the Blazers getting Oden, etc. The ultimate example, of course, is when The Admiral got hurt for the Spurs, which meant they s-u-c-k-e-d that year, and that put them in the lottery. With very little chance to nab the top pick, they got it anyway and landed Tim Duncan. Boston got bumped to third and got Chauncey Billups. Yeah, he's a stud now, but the Celtics squandered him into spare-dom.
And, with the second pick, the 76ers got this guy.
Why Beasley over Rose? I suspect the combination of Chi-town roots along with being the best player in the draft will win out.
With Gordon and Deng's contract status up in the air and Hinrich escaping BYC status here in a month the Bulls are in a position for major wheeling-and-dealing.
Just my preference. Every time I saw Beasley play, he was dominant. Hard to pass up a guy like that. But yeah, their roster could be changing dramatically.
They'd be dumb to pass up Rose. Beasley's game wont move as gracefully to the NBA. He's good, but come on he went to K State. I know he was recruited by everyone, but he went to K State. I like him, but he's a glorified Stacey Augmon. Unless...... he somehow winds up in Dallas, in that case he'll be the best thing to happen to this franchise since Tony Dumas.
